VERNON, Ind. – Jennings County Prosecutor Brian Belding has released his findings following the review of an Indiana State Police (ISP) investigation into the death of Sandra Ray, an inmate at the Jennings County Jail.
The Jennings County Prosecutor and an ISP investigator met to discuss the investigation of Ray’s death. It was the investigator’s opinion that “There was no evidence of an intentional, knowing, or reckless act by anyone who interacted with Ray while she was in custody at Jennings County Jail that would constitute a crime. Ray was continually observed on video surveillance from the time she was booked into the jail until her death.”
Jennings County Sheriff’s Office corrections officers found the inmate, Sandra I. Ray, 35, of North Vernon, unresponsive in her cell on May 26. She had been incarcerated on an OWI charge on May 24. She had been housed in a cell by herself and was the only person in her cell at the time of her death.
