COLUMBUS, Ind. – According to court documents, Bartholomew County prosecutor William (Bill) Nash is facing several criminal charges, including two felonies, after a Mother’s Day (May 8) altercation this year. In an affidavit made public late last week, Nash supposedly threatened to kill one of his neighbors over a dog dispute.
A Columbus police report was filed on May 8 by the neighbors, Scott Stuck and Monica Salazar-Stuck. Nash was officially charged on July 15 and a $600 bond was set and paid on August 2.
The felony charges were for intimidation and obstruction of justice, while the other misdemeanor charges included four counts of harassment, plus one count each of disorderly conduct, interference in the reporting of a crime, and intimidation.
The disagreement stemmed from the local prosecutor being upset about the neighbor’s “dangerous dogs.” Stuck said that Nash had previously shot a pellet gun toward his house.
During the May 8 confrontation, Nash purportedly screamed at the neighbor, “I can kill you and Indiana State Law says I can kill you.” Allegedly, he continued, “The last time I checked I am still the chief law enforcement officer so go ahead and call the cops. Good luck with that.”
Nash’s term in Bartholomew County ends on December 31. An initial hearing date has not been set. The Ripley County prosecutor has been assigned to the case.
