COLUMBUS, Ind. — An attempted murder suspect from California was arrested in Columbus early Tuesday.
Local law enforcement officers, along with special agents from the US Marshalls Fugitive Task Force, arrested Gerber Efrain Canizalez Estrada, 40, of Los Angeles. He was charged with possession of a false government identification card, false informing, operating a vehicle without a license, and an outstanding California warrant. The warrant was issued in connection with a case in California where a woman was stabbed multiple times.
The Columbus Police Department’s (CPD) Intelligence-Led Policing Unit, comprised of officers from CPD and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, stopped a vehicle driven by Estrada, near 10th Street and Gladstone Avenue, at around 5:20 a.m.
Police say the suspect initially identified himself using a false name and a fraudulent identification card. A little later Estrada’s identity was confirmed and he was taken into custody without incident.
