NASHVILLE, Ind. – At the request of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and the Nashville Police Department, the Indiana State Police (ISP) was called to investigate an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday night.
The preliminary inquiry revealed that at approximately 9 p.m., officers from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Nashville Police Department responded to a residence about a possible suicidal subject in rural Brown County.
As officers made contact with the male outside of the residence, the man purportedly pointed a handgun at them. One officer fired at least one shot from a department-issued handgun hitting the man. He was flown to an Indianapolis hospital for potentially life-threatening injuries. His condition is unknown.
The identity of the subject and the officers involved is forthcoming. No one else was injured.
This is an active criminal investigation by ISP detectives. When completed, it will be turned over to the Brown County Prosecutor for review and determination of charges, if any, to be filed.
