INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute recently awarded $3.3 million to 50 law enforcement and government agencies for public safety and crime prevention initiatives. The funding was provided by the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program through the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance.
Through the grant program, the Edinburgh Police Department was able to secure funds in the amount of $17,330 that will go toward the purchase of in-car radar equipment for 14 cars. It will enable officers to enforce the speed of vehicles on public roadways.
Each of the devices will be mounted in the police vehicles so that officers will be able to read the speed of all cars in front of and in the back of the law enforcement vehicle. The recorded speed will be used to enforce the infraction for any court trials.
