COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the initial Third House session for 2022 on Monday morning. State Representative Ryan Lauer and State Senator Greg Walker fielded questions on several topics from community members at the virtual meeting.
Walker’s position on private employers addressing COVID is that contract law should govern policies in workplaces.
Lauer spoke about House Bill 1077 that he helped co-author. It eliminates fees and permits required to carry a gun in Indiana but he stressed that it does not do away with licenses. It also retains background checks and increases penalties for illegally carrying.
Both legislators, in speaking about a bill that would require school board candidates to declare a party affiliation, said that this was a matter best left to local school boards.
