HOPE, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to a 911 call at County Roads 700N and 425E, near Hope, on Sunday at 5 a.m. Deputies discovered a broken utility pole and a vehicle that had substantial front-end damage just west of the intersection.
Although no one was in the vehicle, BCSO received information that the driver was at a nearby residence. Contact was made with Joshua Walter Marsh, 24, of Shelbyville, who said he was a passenger in the vehicle but had no idea where the driver was.
Following an extensive physical search and the use of a drone to try to find the missing and possibly injured driver, Marsh admitted he was the driver.
The suspect was arrested for false informing and operating a vehicle while under the influence.
“Keeping impaired drivers off our roadways is one of our biggest priorities,” said Sheriff Matt Myers. “When citizens call 911 to report possible impaired drivers, they could be saving a life.”
