COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD ) is currently seeking items for a “Pack a Patrol Car” event. CPD is joining several local groups, charities, and businesses in asking the public for clothing and other necessities that will be donated to Afghan refugees who are currently housed at Camp Atterbury.
Unopened healthcare/hygiene products and new or gently used fall and winter clothing, including coats and jackets, are being accepted through Friday, October 8. The items can be placed in the CPD patrol vehicle parked in front of the police department, weekdays, from 8 a.m to 5 p.m.
“We are excited for the opportunity to help the Afghan refugees in a small but vital way,” said CPD Chief of Police Michael Richardson. He added, “We know that our community is very generous and hope to receive enough clothing and supplies to fill a couple of police vehicles.”
