SEYMOUR, Ind. – Seymour High School was put on a hard lockdown on Friday afternoon after the report of a student possibly being in possession of a firearm on campus. The Seymour Police Department (SPD) was notified and investigated the incident.
After a short period of time, SPD announced that it was not an active shooter situation, there were no incidents or injuries to report, and all students were safe and sheltered. Students were eventually released to parents.
Seymour High School principal Greg Prange released a message on Facebook to parents and concerned citizens. It read in part, “This afternoon Seymour High School (SHS) administrators and School Resource Officers (SROs) received information concerning a possible threat to our school. Students who overheard these comments quickly reported this information. Parents were contacted. Collaborative efforts between SHS administration, SROs, Jackson County Emergency Management, local law enforcement, and cooperative parents revealed the potential threat and the handling of the situation. At no time were any students, staff, or facilities in danger. We do not take any threat lightly.”
