COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested a local man suspected of driving under the influence after he was involved in a crash early Saturday morning. Officers responded to the 1100 block of Phoenix Court, at around 12:20 a.m., in regards to a property damage accident where a vehicle had left the scene.
CPD soon located the car that had taken off in the 1100 block of Central Avenue. When they spoke to the driver, Edward McAllister, 46, of Columbus, he supposedly falsely identified himself to police. While speaking to the suspect, officers noted a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and that his balance was allegedly poor.
He was taken to Columbus Regional Health for a blood draw and then placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail.
McAllister was charged with possession of meth and paraphernalia, leaving the scene of an accident, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, false informing, and three Bartholomew County warrants.
