COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Columbus Police Department (CPD) School Resource Officer (SRO) was recently recognized for his hard work as an officer at the Indiana SRO Association’s annual conference in Michigan City.
Eric Kapczynski, a 19-year police department veteran, received the Exceptional Service Award for Region 9, which covers a large area including Columbus and Bartholomew County. He began his SRO work in August 2018 and currently serves Northside Middle School.
CPD Sgt. Julie Quesenbery said, “SRO Kapczynski has worked diligently on building trust and relationships with students, staff, and teachers. I have received several accounts of “Officer Kap” having lunch with students who were otherwise alone or having a rough day. In addition to his work at Northside, Kapczynski teaches DARE classes.”
Superintendent Dr. Jim Roberts added, “BCSC is fortunate to have a partnership with both our city of Columbus and Bartholomew County law enforcement departments. It allows us to engage outstanding police officers, like SRO Kapczynski, in the day-to-day operations of our school system.”
