NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Historical Society invites the public to attend a short program on Thursday, June 24, at the North American House, at 6 p.m., that will commemorate the 50th anniversary of President Richard Nixon’s visit to Jennings County, his ancestral home.
The 37th President of the U.S. came to town on June 24, 1971, at the invitation of the Jennings County Junior Historical Society to dedicate the Indiana Historic Marker for his mother, who was born there in 1885. The program will feature the audio recording of Nixon’s visit and display numerous photographs. The historic marker, which has been restored, will also be re-dedicated.
Local teacher Karen Chilman, her high school students, and others have been working on the restoration for the past month in order to have it ready.
