COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy, Chris Lane, has thrown his hat into the ring for Bartholomew County Sheriff in the 2022 election. Lane, if elected, would succeed Sheriff Matt Myers.
Lane’s law enforcement career started with the Columbus Police Department, where he spent more than 20 years. He was appointed Chief Deputy Sheriff in 2015.
He graduated from Vincennes University, completed coursework at Indiana University and the Drug Enforcement Administration, and is a 2018 graduate of the FBI National Academy.
In his role as Chief Deputy, he has been responsible for the operation of the JNET (Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team) as well as coordinating multi-agency cooperative efforts including the joint City/County SWAT team.
If he becomes sheriff, Lane says that his priorities will include aggressive narcotics enforcement. He stated, “What we have accomplished with JNET has been a watershed moment for law enforcement in Columbus and Bartholomew County. I hope we can take the great teamwork with the Columbus Police Department; Indiana State Police, DEA, local prosecutors, and expand it regionally.” Lane also cites the Bartholomew County Jail’s Drug Treatment program as an area he would continue. ”
