INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Recently, the Indiana House of Representatives voted unanimously on a bill granting surviving spouses the ability to obtain a Purple Heart license plate to honor their loved ones, according to Reps. Ryan Lauer (R-Columbus) and Jim Lucas (R-Seymour).
“This law is another example of working to honor our Hoosier heroes and their loved ones. They deserve to be recognized for their service and sacrifice,” Lauer said.
In the past, Purple Heart recipients who had the specialty plate could request multiple license plates, including one for a spouse’s vehicle. But if the veteran passed away, the spouse was not able to renew the Purple Heart plate.
“This is a simple fix that will allow loved ones to continue honoring and remembering our veterans who sacrificed so much for our country,” Lucas said.
