COLUMBUS, Ind. – The annual “Stand Down” for south-central Indiana, presented in part by Thrive Alliance, is scheduled for Fair Oaks Mall on Thursday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The purpose of the event is to honor and help the heroes of Bartholomew, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Brown, Shelby, and Decatur Counties.
In an effort to comply with social distancing guidelines, this year’s “Stand Down” will be a drive-thru and held in the parking lot, south of the old Carson’s at the mall.
“Stand Down” is a safe place for this population to go to access services they may need including food, clothing, housing assistance, VA benefits, legal aid, and more. “The event educates veterans, military families, and services members about organizations that are available locally to assist them,” states Stand Down committee member Sue Lamborn.
Organizers hope to reach homeless veterans and veterans at risk of becoming homeless to connect them to services they need to get on the path to self-sufficiency. Proof of service or military ID is required to access the free services that will be offered at Fair Oaks Mall, 2380 25th St., in Columbus.
