COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Bartholomew County man was arrested Thursday afternoon after the Columbus Police Department (CPD) received a report that a firearm was discharged during an altercation. Officers responded to Ninth and California Streets, at around 12:45 p.m., and say they recovered evidence of the fight and noted that a nearby parked vehicle was struck by the gunfire.
A man, identified as Christopher Williams, 25, of Columbus, was seen running in the area and stopped by CPD. Officers say they observed Williams drop a bag in the 1400 block of Sycamore Street. Inside the bag, police allegedly found a loaded 9mm handgun, ammunition, and personal property that belonged to the suspect.
Williams was placed under arrest and is facing preliminary charges of criminal recklessness with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. The investigation is ongoing.
