COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office deputies, early Tuesday morning, clocked a car traveling south on Indianapolis Road at 83 mph in the 45 mph zone.
After they attempted a traffic stop, officers say the vehicle fled south at a high rate of speed, while disregarding stop signs. The car was later found abandoned behind an apartment building in the 700 block of Pearl Street. A police K-9 tracked the scent of the suspect from the vehicle to the front door of one of the apartments.
Deputies knocked on the door and a man, later identified as Tanner Smith, 40, of Columbus, answered. During questioning, he allegedly admitted to being the driver. Smith was taken into custody, transported to Bartholomew County Jail, and charged with resisting law enforcement and reckless driving.
