LAUREL, Ind. – UPDATE: Indiana DNR says searchers recovered the sixth victim from Sanes Creek in Franklin County, near Laurel, at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday. Two vehicles had been swept away from the roadway into the creek very early Friday morning. All occupants of the cars were from Laurel and they included three adults and three juveniles, ages 13, 7, and 4. All were pronounced deceased by the Franklin County coroner.
LAUREL, Ind. – Original: As of Friday evening, five victims had been recovered from Sanes Creek in Franklin County and authorities are still searching for a sixth. On Friday, at approximately 5 a.m., Franklin County 911 received a call from a witness who reported seeing headlights off the roadway and hearing calls for help coming from an area near the intersection of Sanes Creek and Tee Hill roads, near Laurel in southeast Indiana.
Indiana DNR says several law enforcement agencies responded and discovered the bridge over Sanes Creek had been partially washed out. Two vehicles, with six passengers, had been swept away. Both vehicles were located a short time later.
Emergency operations had recovered five of the six victims by 3 p.m. The search for the sixth individual is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
