COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) welcomed its new Chief of Police, Michael Richardson, on January 1. He is a 25 year veteran of CPD, and is a life-long resident of Columbus and Bartholomew County. Richards has nearly two decades of supervisory experience during his time at CPD, plus he has served other positions including patrol officer, field training officer, bomb technician, uniform sergeant, uniform lieutenant, uniform captain, and deputy chief of police.
“I consider it a privilege to be selected as Chief of Police and look forward to continuing to move forward on initiatives that have made the Columbus Police Department one of the premier law enforcement agencies in Indiana,” said Chief Richardson.
Richardson also announced his new law enforcement command staff. Deputy Chief of Police has been handed over to Steve Norman, the new Administrative Captain is Jon Rohde, and Jay Frederick was named Uniform Captain.
