COLUMBUS, Ind. – A corrections officer with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office was arrested last Friday for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. She was pulled over by authorities on State Road 46 in Columbus.
Shortly after midnight, a Columbus Police Department (CPD) officer supposedly observed a white Jeep swerving and making unsafe lane movements on westbound S. R. 46, near Morgan Willow Trace, so a traffic stop was initiated near Johnson Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Kimberly Cruser, 42, of Morgantown.
During the stop, the suspect allegedly showed signs of being intoxicated. After learning that Cruser was a corrections officer with the Bartholomew County Jail, CPD requested that the Indiana State Police (ISP) take over the investigation.
When ISP troopers arrived on the scene, they gave Cruser a field sobriety test and then transported her to Columbus Regional Health, where a search warrant was served for a blood draw to determine her blood alcohol content.
Cruser was then arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated (endangerment). She was also cited for an open container violation.
ISP says that blood results are pending and the investigation is still ongoing.
The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office has reported that Cruser has been terminated following the arrest.
