COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Council met Tuesday evening and voted to transfer $48,000 from the professional services portion of the county budget to the salaries portion in order for the information technology department to create a new support-technician position.
In a presentation to the council, IT department head Scott Mays noted that the department is experiencing a deficit of 2542 hours needed to implement projects currently being requested by other departments. He expressed concern about the fact that there is currently zero percent staff time available for cybersecurity, research and development, and skills training.
In other business, the creation of an Economic Revitalization Area at the I-65/US 31 interchange was approved, allowing the county to grant tax abatements to businesses locating there. Council also agreed to vote on appropriating funds for more jail mental health personnel at its July 13 meeting.
