Additional officers will be on patrol this week as students head back to school. Police will be focused on speeding vehicles, distracted driving, and school bus stop arm violators. Aggressive and dangerous driving can be reported anonymously.

Columbus Police Department officers were at Donner Park Saturday for the city of Columbus Public Safety Family Fun Day. Residents had a chance to visit with officers from law enforcement specialty units including SWAT, police K-9 and detectives.

The second annual Moonlight Loop brought out 329 riders Saturdays. The 19-mile bike ride around Columbus benefited Animal Care Services. General Manager Nicohl Birdwell-Goodin said she hopes the event continues to grow.

A North Vernon man was arrested by the Jennings County Sheriff Department on multiple charges just after midnight Sunday. Thomas W. Young, 45, was apprehended for battery, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, strangulation, neglect of a dependent, and criminal recklessness. His bond was set at just over $2,600.

Human Services of Indiana will conduct a Family Farm Day and Hog Roast Aug. 15. The event will take place at Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin. Events include a motorcycle ride, bicycle ride, corn hole tournament, pedal tractor pull, frog jumping contest, and pie eating contest. Find more information at franklingrace.org.
